Lodriland - Our Glorious Past

Back to Lodriland

And lo’ the Ice had come and all were helpless before it.
Only Father Lodril could stave off its fury and save us.
But after Father Lodril had sent his Mighty Spear to save us all
Creating this dome we call Lodriland there was chaos.
None knew who to turn to for guidance or leadership
And brother smote brother and did eat of his flesh
For there was no other food.

And the great priest, Ninazu, weary and weakened yet
From his great efforts at summoning Lodril’s Mighty Spear
Did falter and die, even as he sought to lead us.
And there was chaos and daughter did sleep with her father
And son did sleep with his mother.  And the stranger was among us.
And no one knew who to turn to for guidance or leadership.
And we wandered aimlessly like strangers on the tundra.

And in that time of tribulations there did come a priest named Ur-Nammu.
Who despaired at the people’s actions and sought guidance.
From our Great Gods.  And he did fast and pray for twenty days.
And begged Lodril and Oria to show him could be done.
And Lodril did say, “Thou must guide the people for they are weak.
And thou art strong.  And thou must guide even the hero, Damuzi.
For even a hero needs the guidance of the gods.  For no man can walk alone.

From this day forth let there be Priest and King in one man.”
And Ur-Nammu heard Lodril’s words and was humbled saying.
“Thou hast put thine trust in a weak vessel, O Great God.
I shall surely fail you.”  And Lodril did make the ground quake
So wroth was he.  “Nay, thou shalt be King of Men and Priest of Men alike!
And I shall guide thine steps so that they be unfaltering!”
And Ur-Nammu humbled and abased himself and threw himself on the god’s mercy.

“It shall be as thou wilt Great Lord!”
And X did go to the people and spread the words of Lodril.
And all exulted in these words and the new Priest-King was hailed.
With the God’s guidance he did assign each man and each woman a proper place.
Yea, and even unto the strangers in our midst!
And hero and common man alike did bend their knees to him!
And he took control of the people as was right.

And all since that day have sought his divinely inspired guidance.
